Directions:
The entrance to Bond Brook Recreation Area is located at the rear of Mount Hope Cemetery at 167 Winthrop Street in Augusta. To get there from Western Avenue, take Airport Road off Western Avenue. (Airport Road is located directly across from Shaw’s). Go up Airport Road past the Augusta Airport and past the National Guard (Camp Keyes) gate on the right. After you pass Camp Keyes, you will see the cemetery on your left. Once entering the cemetery, follow signs to parking and registration. Get map.
Course: 2.5k Trail Run, 8k Mountain Bike, 4k Nordic Ski
Awards: Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male & female, and the top place male & female finisher in each of the following categories: Junior (15-24), Senior (25-44), Masters (45+), and for the top male, female, and mixed teams.
Entry Fees: Individual $20, Relay Team $40 (2 or 3 person teams). Day of Race – $25, Relay Team $45. NO REFUNDS.
Relay teams: 2 or 3 person male, female or mixed team categories. If you would like to be on a relay team but don’t have enough members, contact Karen Gross at karengross57@yahoo.com and we will try to match you up with someone.
Registration: Register on-line at SkiReg.com (click here) or download a paper form (click here) and mail to: Augusta Trails, P.O. Box 817, Augusta, ME 04332-0817. If relay teams are registering on-line, one person from the team will register, and that person will then receive an email from us providing registration instructions and waivers for the other team members. Relay team members registering for the race using a paper entry form must submit a form and waiver completed and signed by each team member. All team member entry forms must be mailed together as package. Please don’t forget to include the team name on each form!! There will also be Individual and Relay Team registration on race day. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. The course may be modified depending on snow and weather conditions.
Race Day Schedule:
8:30 am – Registration and Transition area opens
9:00 am – Ski warm-up course opens
9:30 am – Registration and ski warm up course closes
9:45 am – Transition area closes
9:55 am – Pre-race instructions at Start line
10:00 am – Race Start
The transition area will reopen after the last skier crosses the mount line. The award ceremony will be held approximately 30 minutes after the last skier finishes.
Amenities: Bagels, fruit, and water will be available at the end of the race. Tents will be set up on the snow to provide some cover from the elements. Heaters will be available to provide warmth.
COURSE DESCRIPTION AND MAPS
Start/Finish Area: The start and finish of the race is located in the Nordic stadium. The start/finish area will be groomed to accommodate participants and spectators. Tents will be set up on the snow to provide shelter from the elements and a place to keep warm.
Warm–up Areas: Competitors will be allowed to warm-up in designated areas. No warm-ups will be allowed on any segment of the race course. The run and bike warm-up area will be located on a groomed section of the BBRA’s access road. The Nordic warm-up course will be a groomed 1k loop adjacent to the stadium area.
Transition Area: A single transition area will be used for each leg of the race. You will need to register prior to entering the transition area. The bike number must be attached to the bike, and brakes and tires must be checked by a race official before you will be allowed to enter. All your gear will be stowed at a designated location that will be assigned by race number. The transition area will be surrounded by fencing and only you and race officials will be allowed entry. The transition area will have one entrance and one exit, and all competitors will travel the same distance when passing through. The run time and bike time will be recorded as you exit the transition area. The run time will contain the Transition 1 (T1) time, and the bike time will contain the Transition 2 (T2) time.

Aid Stations: There will be no water or food provided on the run, bike, or ski courses. Please bring your own and please leave no trash anywhere in the Bond Brook Recreation Area. Food and water will be provided at the finish line.
Run: All individual and team runners will line up together at the start line. The 2.5k run course is one loop that winds and climbs through the woods. There are two stream crossings and a few short, steep climbs. Spikes are not required, but recommended.

Bike: After you have completed the run, you will enter into the transition area. You will walk/run or carry your bike to the mount line and mount your bike. Team runners will tag the biker. The bike mount line will be on the left side of the transition area as you exit. The 8k bike course consists of two 4k loops that wind through the woods, cross over a stream, travel along a logging road, cross a power line, with the final section descending down the access road into the stadium. There are a few steep climbs and dismounting your bike and carrying/pushing it is recommended. The entire course will be on snow (depending on conditions), but there is a possibility that the access road may be dirt. Volunteers will be stationed along the access road directing traffic and stopping cars when needed. Riders will have the right-of-way. Studded tires or aggressive treads are recommended, but not required.

Nordic Ski: From the bike dismount line you will carry or walk/run your bike back into the transition area. You will then carry your skis out of the transition area to the ski mount line. Team bikers will tag the team skier (team skiers – don’t forget to get the race bib from the runner). The ski mount line will be on the right side of the transition area as you exit. The 4k ski course will consist of two 2k loops and we will set both a classic and freestyle track. There are several climbs and exhilarating downhills on the course, including our famous halfpipe decent, followed by a flat area through the stadium where you can sprint to the finish line. Don’t forget to display your bib!!!!

Spectators: All trails in the BBRA will be closed to the public from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on race day. Spectators will be allowed in designated areas only. At no time prior to or during the race are spectators allowed on the course. We will provide a map of where spectators will be allowed at the Registration area on race day.
RACE RULES
Run
• Spikes are allowed.
• The race bib must be displayed on the front of the runner.
Bike
• Only mountain bikes are allowed.
• No aerobars or bar extensions beyond the brake levers.
• Race numbers must be attached to the front of the bike.
• The minimum tire width allowed is 1.5”.
• Cleated or studded tires are allowed. No slick tires are allowed.
• Bike shoes not required.
• Riders may push or carry their bikes through the transition area. Riding is not allowed in the transition area.
• Riders may not mount their bikes when leaving the transition area until they pass the designated mount/dismount line.
• Helmets must be buckled prior to mounting the bike.
• Riders must dismount their bikes before entering the transition area.
• Riders may pass only when it is safe and to the left of other competitors.
• Riders may push or carry their bikes anywhere on the course, but must stay to the right edge of the course if doing so.
• Competitors are personally responsible that their bicycles are in satisfactory condition at the start of the competition.
• It is not allowed to receive help from others, by their fellow competitors or outside assistants during the race.
• Competitors may not give or receive mechanical assistance from other competitors or outside assistants during the race unless it is provided by a race official.
• Riders must wear a helmet during the bike segment.
Nordic Ski
• If you warm-up on your skis before the race, you must wear your bib number.
• Skate skis or classic skis are allowed.
• The race bib must be displayed on the front of the skier.
• Skiers are not allowed to put on skis in transition area.
• Skiers are allowed to compete in the classic or freestyle technique.
• Skiers must pass on the right side.
• Once requested to be passed by a competitor, the other competitor must move to the side as soon as possible.
Relay Teams
• All team members must wait in the transition area during the race. The biker and runner must be in place at 9:45 am when the transition area closes. You will not be able to leave the transition area once the race begins. Dress accordingly.
• The runner will enter back into the transition area after completing the run segment and tag the biker. The runner will remain in the transition area and give the bib number to the skier.
• The biker will enter back into the transition area after completing the bike course and tag the skier.
• The runner and biker must remain in the transition area until after the last skier crosses the mount line and a race official opens the transition area.
Transition Area
• Competitors must stow all their gear including running shoes, bike, and skis in their designated area.
• Competitors must use only their designated area.
• Competitors may not impede the progress of other competitors in the transition area or interfere with another competitor’s equipment.
• Competitors may not mount or dismount their bike in the transition area.
• Skiing inside the transition area is forbidden.
• No one will be allowed back into the transition area after finishing until the last skier is has passed over the ski mount line.
Finish Line
• All competitors will clearly display their race numbers when crossing the finish line.
• After crossing the finish line competitors will stay in the order of finish until their number has been recorded at the end of the finish chute.
• Competitors may remove their skis only after exiting the finish chute.
